SECONDARY GLAZING: THE RETROFIT SOLUTION TO BUILDING SUSTAINABILITY

In a time of an ever-growing climate crisis, soaring heating costs, more stringent energy efficiency regulations secondary glazing has never been more relevant. It is being used more and more frequently to insulate existing buildings and is by far the best way of providing noise insulation. Secondary glazing installation is a more sustainable option than replacement of primary windows. The embodied carbon in the existing windows is retained and there is no carbon cost associated with removing and sorting materials for recycling or landfill. This RIBA approved CPD seminar will leave those attending, confident in the ability to create a good specification when detailing secondary glazing into a project; to raise thermal efficiency, provide acoustic insulation or additional security in traditional, listed or new buildings. Testing standards and performance levels which can be achieved will be covered, as well as the more technical aspects such as fixing details and other design considerations.

EXTERNAL WALL INSULATION

Soltherm External Insulation Ltd is part of a multi-national company with operations in 15 countries, with 25 years of experience Soltherm has become one of the leading companies in the building chemistry market and a leading producer of thermal insulation systems. Soltherm has manufactured and delivered over 100 million m2 of EWI insulated façades and components world-wide since it’s foundation.

VENTROLLA – THE SASH WINDOW SPECIALISTS: TIMBER WINDOW SOLUTIONS

This CPD will cover the general aspects of period timber windows looking at the types of repairs and unique performance upgrades offered by Ventrolla and the benefits to the client.

13:00

ACOUSTIC ISOLATION

This CPD session will introduce the fundamentals of acoustic isolation in practical terms. We will explain: What to look out for in a project where noise and vibration control is critical; The space requirements to allow isolation systems to work effectively; On-site recommendations that can make the difference between success and failure; Why every single detail – from fixings to finishes – plays a crucial role in the final acoustic performance.

The aim is to give attendees a clear understanding of what matters most when high acoustic specifications are required, so that potential risks are identified early, costs are controlled, and the end result meets both technical and user expectations.

14:00

INTRODUCTION TO AND APPLICATION OF HEAT PUMPS, INCLUDING HYBRID SYSTEMS

This CPD session will explore the proven role of heat pumps and why their use is now more critical than ever as the grid decarbonises and refrigerants advance. We’ll revisit the fundamentals of the vapour compression cycle, examine the pros and cons of commonly used refrigerants, and outline design principles that ensure heat pumps deliver real carbon savings.

The session will also present practical schematics for both new and existing systems, including hybrid applications alongside boilers and options with or without domestic hot water.
