SPECIFYING SAFE DESIGN PRINCIPLES: SMOKE, ACCESS, FIRE AND ESCAPE

This CPD presentation provides an essential guide to the key aspects of SAFE Design philosophy. Specifying effective Smoke ventilation, safe Access, compliant Fire rated design and Escape solutions. For anyone new to the subject or for those who would benefit from updating their knowledge on access and escape solutions. Starting with the fundamental question ‘How To Specify Safe Access?” the presentation builds into a comprehensive and authoritative guide to understanding how, as an architect, simple design considerations can be made to ensure safe and compliant access while following tried and tested design methodology. The presentation draws to a close by demonstrating how to design around small, medium and large-scale problems with innovative solutions across a variety of industries.

WHY ARE HEAT PUMPS AND HOT WATER CYLINDERS PART OF THE FUTURE OF OUR HOME HEATING MIX?

This CPD reviews the drivers behind the increased use of heat pumps for domestic heating and the important factors in choosing the correct unvented cylinder to match your heat pump. It explains the basic principles of how they work, the key system differences, the associated design considerations, and the implications for the cylinder you specify.

INTRODUCING DELTABEAM

The seminar will cover the design, application, construction and procurement of Deltabeam. These compositebeams can be used with concrete, steel or timber frames to support hollowcore, wide slab, composite metal decking and CLT/Timber. The combination achieves slim long span floor plate solutions for all building types. Deltabeam through its unique arrangement maximises structural efficiency thus reducing material whilst achieving up to 180 minutes fire resistance without any additional protection. The environmental benefits of flat slab exposed soffit constructions are also covered as well as low carbon steel and the Circular Economy. Examples of both UK and European practice will show how the use of other Peikko products such as PCs corbels and column shoes frames can be fitted together quickly and safely.
