FIRE PREVENTION & PROTECTION
A GUIDE TO MEETING BS 8629:2019
BS 8629:2019 is the new code of practice for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of evacuation alert systems for use by fire and rescue services in buildings containing flats. This CPD provides an overview of the main clauses. It covers the scope and definitions of BS 8629 and explains evacuation alert zones, the siting of devices, the requirements for evacuation alert control and indicating equipment, the responsibilities of the installer, and commissioning and handover.
FLAMESPREAD REACTION TO FIRE COATINGS & FLUIDS. METHOIDS TO TURN WOOD FIRE PROTECTION FROM ILLUSION INTO REALITY
Specification, application and monitoring of fire protection for wood and other flammable construction and decorative materials within buildings remains unnecessarily complex. Avoiding products with vague, misleading product literature and documents which result in understandable confusion and error among specifiers and users alike. Assistance caring manufacturers can give to reducing the risk of under-application by simplifying purchasing, minimising application, monitoring of product usage, creation and storage of Certification records for protected projects.

PASSIVE FIRE PROTECTION FOR STRUCTURAL STEEL
Steel frame is an increasingly important construction method which poses a series of fire protection considerations. This CPD focuses on providing an understanding of the key considerations for insulating structural steel members, and how choosing the right insulation solutions can extend fire protection periods and simplify building regulation compliance.

LIMITED COMBUSTIBLE MEMBRANES AND PRODUCTS “LCM” AND “LCP”
Exterior wall systems are often complex structures made of a wide variety of building materials: cladding, glazing, steel construction, solar protection, weather protection and insulation. All of these must be safe in the event of a fire, especially at high rise and high risk buildings. See in our CPD how LCMs and LCPs in Euroclass A2 can enrich your design and empower your fire safety concept, especially for solar protection, rainscreen facades, skylight shades, tensioned ceilings.

CAVITY BARRIERS IN MASONRY FACADES
This presentation looks at some of the typical build-ups of masonry facades and the UK regulatory requirements for fire protection within this facade type including the latest regulation changes and additional guidance. It looks at the different types of fire barriers, which ones are suitable for this specific application and what important principles they must incorporate; also the testing and certification of products and systems to assist you in finding the routes to compliance when installing the firestops into the facade system. It also puts forward some typical problematic areas and how to overcome them early in the design stage to avoid them surfacing down the line on site and shows the fundamentals of installing cavity barriers and firestops system in masonry facades.
