BS 8629:2019 is the new code of practice for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of evacuation alert systems for use by fire and rescue services in buildings containing flats. There have been 560 prosecutions in England and Wales under the RRO (2006-2018), ranging from large well-known companies such as New Look who were fined £536,000, to small family run businesses who have also been targeted.
